Rao Abdul Kareem appointed new IGP Punjab

Outgoing IGP Dr Usman Anwar is likely to be given his next posting at the federal level.

LAHORE (Dunya News) - The provincial government has appointed Rao Abdul Kareem as the new Inspector General (IG) of Punjab Police, it was learnt on Monday.

According to sources, the appointment was approved by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.

The appointment comes after several senior officers were considered for the top post, including Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Lahore Bilal Siddique Kamyana and Additional IGP Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Wasim Sial.

Meanwhile, it is being expected that the outgoing IG, Dr Usman Anwar, is likely to be given his next posting at the federal level.

Who is Rao Abdul Kareem?

Additional Inspector General Rao Abdul Kareem belongs to the 24th Common of the Police Service of Pakistan.

He joined the police service in 1996 as an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP).

Punjab IGP likely to be replaced as transfer plans emerge

During his career, Rao Abdul Kareem has served as District Police Officer (DPO) in Jhang, Mianwali and Kasur, and has also performed duties as Regional Police Officer (RPO) Gujranwala.

He has held several key positions, including Additional IG of the Punjab Highway Patrol.

Prior to his appointment as IG Punjab, he was serving as Additional IGP Special Branch.
