JOHANNESBURG (Dunya News) – Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (Fazl) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman on Saturday said that capitalism operating under the banner of democracy has become a “curse” for ordinary people, while calling on overseas Pakistanis to play a stronger role in supporting Pakistan’s economic stability.
Addressing a reception hosted by the Pakistani community in Johannesburg, Fazlur Rehman described expatriates as “ambassadors of Pakistan” and urged them to project a positive image of the country abroad.
He said their skills, investments and engagement were vital for strengthening Pakistan’s economy and ensuring sustained growth in gross domestic product (GDP).
The JUI-F leader said Pakistan was passing through challenging economic conditions and required collective efforts to move out of the current crisis. He encouraged the diaspora to explore avenues for investment, trade promotion and community initiatives that could contribute to national development.
Referring to global political systems, Fazlur Rehman said debates continue worldwide between democracy and authoritarianism.
He argued that in some countries, capitalism in the name of democracy has burdened the public, while in others, authoritarian systems and communism have exploited people.
He reiterated his party’s commitment to advocating policies aimed at social justice, economic fairness and national sovereignty, and thanked the Pakistani community in South Africa for their continued support and hospitality.
