Survey in Walled City Lahore finds 346 dangerous buildings ahead of Basant; safety measures and rooftop bans enforced

LAHORE (Dunya News) -  Ahead of the Basant festival, the Walled City Lahore Authority has completed a survey of dangerous and dilapidated buildings in the historic Walled City area, following orders from the Lahore High Court.

The survey identified a total of 346 hazardous buildings, of which 183 were declared beyond repair and 163 were deemed repairable.

Among the most dangerous structures, 92 buildings have been vacated, while 254 remain occupied, posing a continued safety risk.

The report also revealed that of the occupied buildings, 103 are irreparable and 151 can be repaired, while among the vacated structures, 80 are slated for demolition and 12 are repairable.

According to the Walled City Authority, the rooftops of these unsafe buildings are not safe for Basant kite-flying activities.

Authorities have begun taking steps to ban rooftop usage, including placing warning notices and awareness banners.

To prevent accidents during Basant, the report recommends sealing hazardous parts of buildings, deploying police and paramilitary forces, and implementing additional safety measures in coordination with district administration
