ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) President Chaudhry Parvez Elahi has said that the appointment of Mehmood Khan Achakzai as Leader of the Opposition will prove to be a positive development for the democratic process.
The former Punjab chief minister congratulated Achakzai while speaking on telephonic call on Sunday.
During the conversation, the PTI president described Achakzai as a senior and dignified politician and expressed hope that, under his leadership, the opposition would play a strong, positive and constructive role in the House.
Mehmood Achakzai appointed opposition leader after long delay in National Assembly
It is pertinent to note that National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has issued the notification appointing Mehmood Khan Achakzai as Leader of the Opposition.
Following the disqualification of Omar Ayub, PTI founder Imran Khan had nominated Mehmood Khan Achakzai for the position of Leader of the Opposition.
However, the speaker had maintained that the notification could not be issued while the matter was sub judice.
Subsequently, after Omar Ayub withdrew his petition, Speaker Ayaz Sadiq issued the notification formally appointing Mehmood Khan Achakzai as Leader of the Opposition.
