Dense fog forces closures on Lahore motorways, heavy vehicles restricted

Updated on:

Thick fog in Punjab has led to motorway closures and travel restrictions for heavy vehicles, with authorities urging caution and lane discipline.

LAHORE (Dunya News) – The National Highways & Motorway Police (NHMP) have announced temporary closures on key motorways due to dense fog affecting visibility and road safety.

Authorities have urged motorists to exercise caution and avoid unnecessary travel during the hazardous conditions.

M-2 Motorway: Heavy vehicles are barred from travelling between Thokar Niaz Beg and Bulksar Interchange. Additionally, closures extend up to Kot Momin Interchange in some areas. M-3 Motorway: Large vehicles are restricted from Faizpur to Darkhana. M-11 Motorway (Lahore–Sialkot): Traffic is blocked from Lahore Main Toll Plaza to Sambaryal.

Safety advisory

NHMP Central Region spokesperson Syed Imran Ahmad emphasised that these closures aim to safeguard lives and property. He highlighted that lane violations in foggy conditions can trigger severe accidents and urged road users to adhere strictly to lane discipline.

Authorities recommend travelling during daylight hours, specifically between 10:00 am and 6:00 pm, when visibility is relatively safer. Drivers are advised to use fog lights, maintain a safe distance from vehicles ahead, and avoid high speeds. Non-essential journeys should be postponed until conditions improve.

For assistance or guidance, motorists can contact the NHMP helpline at 130.
