PESHAWAR (Dunya News) – Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi said on Friday that incarcerated former premier Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi were being kept in unlawful detention and in continuous solitary confinement.

Addressing a meeting of the provincial cabinet, Afridi said that Khan and his wife were not being provided winter necessities in jail. He called the use of water cannons on Khan’s sisters and their humiliation a shameful act.

The chief minister said the provincial government strongly condemns this unfair and inhumane treatment. He added that during the NFC meeting, a subcommittee was formed to protect provincial rights, which he welcomed. The subcommittee will be headed by the provincial finance advisor, and recommendations regarding outstanding dues will be presented to the federal government.

Afridi said all political and legal avenues will be utilized to secure the province’s rights. He also directed the finance department to send weekly letters to the federal government regarding NHP and NFC arrears.

He stated that a yearly allocation of Rs 100 billion had been promised for the merged districts, but over seven years only Rs 168 billion had been provided, leaving Rs 532 billion still outstanding. He instructed all departments to send weekly letters to the federation regarding their pending dues to ensure everything is documented.
