KARACHI (Web Desk) - Authorities have imposed a ban on the entry of 1+2 and 1+4 rickshaws on 20 major arteries of the city, expanding restrictions to a total of 26 key roads, according to an official notification.
Based on recommendations from the DIG Traffic, a formal decision was taken to restrict rickshaw movement across Karachi. A complete prohibition has also come into immediate effect from Shahrah-e-Faisal to II Chundrigar Road.
The ban on 20 major roads will remain effective from 18 October to 17 December 2025, enforced under Section 144 by the Karachi Commissioner to improve traffic flow. SHOs have been instructed to lodge cases under Section 188 against violators, while all relevant departments and deputy commissioners have been directed to ensure strict and immediate implementation.
The restrictions were imposed due to public complaints, chronic traffic congestion and rising accident risks on central city routes.
The Commissioner has also enforced a full ban on 1+4 rickshaws on an additional six major roads, officially expanding the restriction in line with new traffic police recommendations. The newly added roads will remain under the same effective period as the earlier notification. The extended ban aims to enhance public safety, traffic management and urban convenience.
Roads affected include University Road, Korangi Road, Orangi Road, the Super Highway up to Malir Cantt, Mauripur Road, and Shahrah-e-Pakistan up to Sohrab Goth, among 20 major routes.
