ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People is being observed across the world including Pakistan today (Saturday).

Every year on this day, the international community stands in solidarity for the dignity, rights, justice and self-determination of the Palestinian people.

In 1977, the General Assembly called for the annual observance of 29 November as the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People. On that day in 1947, the Assembly adopted the resolution on the partition of Palestine.

In Resolution 60/37 of Dec 1, 2005, the UNGA requested the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People and the Division for Palestinian Rights, as part of the observance of the day on Nov 29, to continue to organise an annual exhibit on Palestinian rights or a cultural event in cooperation with the Permanent Observer Mission of Palestine to the UN.

The resolution on this observance also encourages member states to continue to give the widest support and publicity to the observance.

In their separate messages on the occasion, President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have reaffirmed Pakistan's unwavering support for the inalienable right to self-determination of Palestinian people and establishment of an independent State of Palestine with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.
