No let-up in flood devastation as 12 more die in one day

Countrywide death toll reaches 922

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Twelve more people lost their lives in devastating floods in one day, rising the countrywide death toll to 922, Dunya News reported here on Monday.

Countrywide deluges, particularly in Punjab and Sindh keep ravaging villages alongside rivers, posing a gigantic challenge for the Punjab and Sindh governments to prevent collateral disaster.

With heavy rains and flushing of water by India in rivers flowing into Pakistan triggered heavy floods in the country, risking the lives of thousands of people, killing hundreds of livestock and putting the already fragile economy under strain.

The total number of deaths due to rains and floods has reached 922, including 246 children and 151 women. As many as 504 people died in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 244 in Punjab, 60 in Sindh, and 26 in Balochistan.

As many as 41 people died in Gilgit-Baltistan, 38 in Azad Kashmir, and 9 in Islamabad.
