PPP chairman says that press freedom is essential for a democratic society

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari strongly condemned the assault on journalists by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers outside Adiala Jail on Monday.

The PPP chairman denounced the attack on senior journalist Tayyab Baloch, calling it unacceptable and undemocratic.

“This behaviour by PTI supporters is intolerable,” Bilawal stated, adding that such acts of violence undermine the foundation of free press.

The PPP chairman emphasised that freedom of the press is essential for a democratic society, and such incidents cannot be overlooked.

“The Pakistan Peoples Party has always raised its voice in support of journalists’ rights and freedom of expression,” he added.

Bilawal called for accountability and urged political workers to respect democratic norms and the vital role of journalists in society.

Earlier, an unpleasant incident occurred during the media talk of Aleema Khan outside Adiala Jail.

PTI workers engaged in physical altercations and verbal abuse against journalists present there.

When journalists asked questions, the PTI supporters responded with scuffles and offensive language. In protest against the behavior of PTI workers, the journalists collectively decided to boycott Aleema Khan’s media talk.

The incident has raised concerns about press freedom and the safety of media persons in the country.
