LAHORE (Dunya News) - India's water aggression continues as the gates of the Salal Dam on the Chenab River in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) have been opened.
India’s sudden release of water from the Salal Dam has raised fears of flooding in downstream areas of Pakistan and there is growing concern that the situation in the Chenab River may worsen.
At Head Qadirabad, the river has reached an extremely high flood level, with an inflow recorded at 305,000 cusecs. At Head Khanki, a high flood has also been recorded, with water inflow at 242,000 cusecs.
At Head Marala, a low-level flood is being observed, with an inflow of 110,000 cusecs. In Chiniot, river waves are rising rapidly; a flow of 457,000 cusecs has caused a flood situation. It is feared that a massive flood wave of up to 1,000,000 cusecs could pass through Chiniot.
At Chenab Nagar, a high-level flood has already reached, with 463,000 cusecs of water flowing through. A high alert has been issued. In Ahmadpur East, the Zamindara Bund (embankment) has been broke at the Baili Wala Patan area, submerging multiple villages and destroying crops over hundreds of acres.
In Pakpattan, the Sutlej River has caused destruction. The breach of an embankment has created an emergency situation, cutting off dozens of villages from road access to Minchinabad city due to the flood.
