Death toll in monsoon rains, floods across KP climbs to 406: PDMA

The most affected district is Buner, where a total of 237 deaths have been reported so far

PESHAWAR (Dunya News) - The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Tuesday released a report on the human and financial losses caused by recent monsoon rains and flash floods across various districts of the province.

According to PDMA, due to rains and flash floods, a total of 406 people have lost their lives in various incidents so far, while 247 persons sustained injuries. Among the deceased are 305 men, 55 women and 46 children, while the injured comprise 179 men, 38 women, and 30 children.

These incidents occurred in the districts of Swat, Buner, Bajaur, Mansehra, Shangla, Lower Dir, Battagram, and Swabi.

According to PDMA, the most affected district is Buner, where a total of 237 deaths have been reported so far. Flooding claimed 42 lives in Swabi district, 36 lives in Shangla and 25 in Mansehra. PDMA stated that in rain-related incidents in Bajaur 22 people died, while 20 died in flooding in Swat.

The report also stated that a total of 2,810 houses have been damaged, of which 2,136 were partially damaged and 674 were completely destroyed. Moreover, 324 educational institutions were also damaged out of which 18 schools were completely destroyed.
