ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The Supreme Court (SC) on Monday dismissed the petition of a brother challenging his sister’s share in inheritance.
A two-member bench headed by Justice Hasan Azhar Rizvi heard the case, with Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan remarking that "the brother expects his sisters to serve him but refuses to give them their rightful share in the property while the sisters cook and clean the house."
Justice Rizvi remarked, “The Qur’an has clearly defined the share of sisters; how can one deny what is ordained by the Qur’an?” He further noted that the sister’s signature was missing on the property distribution document, indicating a lack of consent.
The applicant’s lawyer argued that sister Maryam was given her share, but she claimed it was insufficient.
The court, finding no merit in the brother’s appeal, dismissed the petition, thereby upholding the sister’s rightful share in the inheritance.
