FO rules out any meeting between PM Shehbaz, India's Modi in China

Ishaq Dar will depart for Bangladesh tomorrow, says Foreign Office

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The Foreign Office on Friday ruled out any meeting scheduled between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Indian PM Narendra Modi in China.

During the weekly media briefing, Foreign Office Spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan stated that there is no planned engagement between the two leaders.

In his briefing, FO spokesperson said that Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar will depart for Bangladesh tomorrow.

“The visit is expected to yield positive outcomes in enhancing trade ties and combating terrorism,” he said.

He added that Pakistan strongly condemns the so-called 'Greater Israel' plan and remains committed to the complete eradication of terrorism.

Talking about the Chinese foreign minister’s visit, he said that Pakistan briefed China on the ongoing human rights violations in Indian-occupied Kashmir and appreciated China’s consistent support for the Kashmiri people's right to self-determination.

“The sixth Pakistan-China Foreign Ministers' Strategic Dialogue was also held in Islamabad, where both sides agreed to advance cooperation under CPEC Phase II and strengthen ties in trade, investment, and energy,” said the FO.

The dialogue also included discussions on defence cooperation, education, and cultural exchanges.

The spokesperson highlighted the recent trilateral meeting in Kabul between Pakistan, China, and Afghanistan.

The meeting, attended by FM Dar, Chinese FM Wang Yi, and the Afghan foreign minister, focused on political, economic, and security cooperation. The three countries emphasized joint efforts for regional peace and discussed the potential expansion of CPEC into Afghanistan.

Pakistan reiterated its support for peace and development in Afghanistan, while China pledged continued involvement in Afghanistan’s reconstruction.
