In a first, FIA launches AI-based application to combat human trafficking

Naqvi assures funds for upgrading IT infrastructure will be provided immediately

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – In a major step towards easing immigration processes and combating human trafficking, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has developed an AI-based mobile application. The pilot project will be launched at Islamabad Airport as per Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi’s directive.

During a visit to FIA Headquarters in Islamabad, Interior Minister Naqvi chaired a high-level meeting where the progress on previous decisions regarding FIA’s modernisation was reviewed. He was briefed on the AI-based app aimed at simplifying immigration procedures and curbing human smuggling.

Minister Naqvi appreciated the initiative, calling it “the need of the hour.” He stated that the project will not only help prevent human trafficking but will also eliminate long passenger queues at immigration counters.

He also assured that required funds for upgrading IT infrastructure will be provided immediately. In addition, he directed for the urgent upgrading of the FIA Headquarters building and ordered the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to hand over newly allocated land for the FIA Academy without delay.

Given the shortage of staff, Naqvi instructed that recruitment for vacant approved posts should begin immediately, adding, “I will ensure all necessary resources are provided, but in return, performance must be shown.”

FIA Director General Raja Riffat Mukhtar gave a detailed briefing to the Interior Minister. It was revealed that work on necessary amendments to the FIA Act has been completed, and the digital transformation of the agency is underway on a priority basis.

The FIA has already transitioned to an e-office system, and all official notices will soon be issued with QR codes for verification. The meeting was attended by all Additional Director Generals and Directors of FIA, while zonal directors joined online.
