Local holiday announced in twin cities today

The announcement comes as the nation gears up to mark the Independence Day

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – The districts administration of Islamabad and Rawalpindi has announced a local holiday for Wednesday (today) in connection with the celebrations of Pakistan Independence Day on Thursday (tomorrow).

Deputy Commissioner, Rawalpindi, Hassan Waqar Cheema and Deputy Commissioner, Islamabad, Irfan Nawaz Memon, have declared the holiday.

According to a notification issued by Deputy Commissioner Irfan Nawaz Memon, the holiday will apply across the Islamabad Capital Territory, excluding essential services such as MCI, CDA, ICT Administration, police, IESCO, SNGPL, and hospitals.

The announcement comes as the nation gears up to mark the 78th Independence Day, coupled with celebrations of victory in Marka-e-Haq — the name given to the recent armed conflict between Pakistan and India.

Streets and official buildings have been decorated with flags and lights, while markets brim with stalls selling buntings, caps, and green-and-white outfits for children.

This year’s celebrations carry extra fervour following Pakistan’s success in Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos under Marka-e-Haq.

In preparation, the city’s administration has banned the sale and use of plastic horns. Under the directives of CDA Chairman and Chief Commissioner Muhammad Ali Randhawa, Islamabad’s roads, landmarks, and public spaces have been adorned with flags, cultural exhibits, and artistic installations — radiating the spirit of independence across the capital.
