NEW DELHI (Dunya News) – India has strongly reacted to the United States’ decision to impose an additional 25 percent tariff on Indian goods, calling the move unjustified, unnecessary, and disappointing.
In a statement issued by the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi made it clear that it will take all necessary steps to safeguard its national interests. The ministry expressed regret over Washington’s decision, saying such actions do not align with the principles of fair trade.
According to the statement, India believes the US is targeting it due to its continued oil purchases from Russia – a move that has long been under Washington’s scrutiny.
However, India reiterated that it has already laid out its position on the matter and has acted in line with its own energy needs and strategic autonomy.
India also stressed that any punitive action from the US based on these grounds is unfair and biased.

The development marks another bump in the road for Indo-US trade relations, which have seen rising tensions in recent months.
While both sides have often emphasised the importance of mutual cooperation, the fresh tariff move is likely to fan the flames of economic friction between the two countries.
