Govt decides to launch digital census

Digital census will collect data such as the consumers’ CNIC (national identity card) numbers.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The federal government has decided to conduct a digital census in relation to electricity billing, sources said.

All distribution companies, including Lesco, have been directed via official letters to carry out a door-to-door survey through third-party involvement.

According to sources, the digital census will collect data such as the consumers’ CNIC (national identity card) numbers.

It will also record the number of electricity meters installed at each household, and whether the electricity connection is under the owner's or tenant's name.

Additionally, electricity tariff details applied to each bill will be included in the records. The survey will also gather consumers’ mobile phone numbers.

The digital census is part of the government’s "Electric City Plan" initiative.
