LAHORE (Dunya News) – Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif took a test ride on Pakistan’s first urban electric train, the Super Autonomous Rapid Transit (SART).

She personally monitored the road test from Ali Town to Muslim Town, inspecting the train and reviewing the onboard facilities.

Punjab Transport Minister Bilal Akbar briefed the chief minister on the SART project, while Maryam Nawaz also reviewed its performance in regular traffic conditions.

Residents along Raiwind Road and Canal Road expressed excitement upon witnessing the SART in action.

Already successfully operating in Turkiye, China, Abu Dhabi, and other countries, the electric train features three coaches (with capacity for a fourth) and can carry up to 320 passengers. Manufactured by Norinco International, this fully electric train can travel 40 kilometers on a single charge, offering air-conditioning and modern amenities.

Maryam Nawaz stated that SART will reduce environmental pollution and improve traffic flow.

“Every day now brings good news for the people of Punjab,” she said, adding that the new electric train will enhance Lahore’s beauty.

She further announced that similar projects are being planned for Gujranwala and Faisalabad.
