LAHORE (Dunya News) – A major train accident occurred on Friday evening when the Islamabad Express, travelling from Lahore to Rawalpindi, derailed near Kala Shah Kaku.
According to Pakistan Railways officials, four carriages of the train detached and slipped off the tracks, resulting in injuries to 30 passengers.
Emergency response teams arrived at the site promptly and launched rescue operations. The injured passengers were given first aid at the scene, while those with serious injuries were transported to nearby hospitals for medical treatment. Authorities worked swiftly to clear the affected track and support the victims.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, expressing his sorrow over the incident, prayerd for the injured. He also ordered to expedite the rescue efforts and to provide medical treatement to the injured on priority basis.
Railways' reforms top priority: Hanif Abbasi
Federal Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi took notice of the incident and directed the Chief Executive Officer of Pakistan Railways and the Divisional Superintendent (DS) to reach the site of the derailment immediately.
The minister also ordered a formal inquiry into the incident, demanding a detailed report within seven days.
Train routes changed temporarily
Meanwhile, the routes of trains traveling between Rawalpindi and Lahore have been temporarily changed due to a blocked railway track.
Until the track is cleared, trains will be rerouted via Wazirabad, Sangla Hill, Hafizabad, Shahdara, and then proceed to Lahore, according to railway authorities.
The Green Line Express has been redirected from Sadhoke to Wazirabad.
Moreover, a relief train and a medical van dispatched from Lahore are currently at the site to provide medical assistance to passengers.
