ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - As many as 271 people lost their lives in the ongoing monsoon season across the country, said the National Disaster Management Authority on Saturday.
The NDMA released a detailed report outlining the damages caused by monsoon rains from June 26 to July 26 across Pakistan.
According to the latest update, 6 people lost their lives and 22 were injured in the past 24 hours alone.
Since the beginning of the monsoon season, a total of 271 fatalities and 655 injuries have been reported.
Among the deceased are 132 children, 93 men, and 46 women. Punjab has recorded the highest number of casualties, with 145 deaths and 514 injuries.
The report added that 63 deaths were reported in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa while 25 people lost their lives in Sindh.

Moreover, Balochistan reported 20 deaths while 2 people lost their lives in Azad Kashmir.
As many as 8 deaths were reported in Islamabad in the monsoon season.
The report said that 1,191 houses have been affected, 367 livestock have been swept away while 12 bridges have been damaged due to heavy rains and flooding.
Meanwhile, the fifth spell of monsoon rains is set to begin in Punjab on July 28 and continue until July 31, according to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA).
Widespread rainfall is expected across most districts of the province. The PDMA spokesperson has warned of potential urban and flash flooding, landslides in hilly areas, and damage to weak or poorly constructed buildings.
Rain is forecast in the following areas: Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal, Sahiwal, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Khushab, Sargodha, Mianwali, Nankana Sahib, Chiniot, Faisalabad, and Okara.
Between July 29 and 31, rain is also expected in Dera Ghazi Khan, Bhakkar, Bahawalpur, Khanewal, Pakpattan, Vehari, Lodhran, Muzaffargarh, and Rajanpur.
