WASHINGTON (Web Desk) – Pakistani-American men and women are contesting the United States election on the tickets of Democratic and Republican parties on Tuesday (today). Interstingly, most of them are Democrats.
According to local media reports, Sulaiman Lalani and Salman Bhojani are contesting election as Democratic candidates from Texas are is strong position.
Aisha Farooqi is a strong contender from 57th District in the Michigan House of Representatives as a Democrat. An assistant prosecuting attorney in Wayne County, Aisha has been “a public servant, fighting for the vulnerable and marginalized members of our community,” she wrote in her introductory note on social media platforms.
Meanwhile, Aamir Sultan is contesting election on a Republican ticket from New York.
Meriam Sabih is a candidate on the Democratic ticket from Pennsylvania.
Aaron Bashir of Republican Party is running for the US House to represent Pennsylvania's 2nd Congressional District.
In Fort Bend County, Texas, two Pakistani-Americans are contesting the constable seat. Nabeel Shaikh is a Democrat and facing Republican candidate Ali Shekhani.
The Americans are voting to elect new president today (Nov. 5). Around 80 million voters have already used their right to franchise. There are more than 186 million registered voters in the United States.
