Maryam Nawaz calls for end to violence against journalists

She is committed to providing houses to homeless journalists

LAHORE (Dunya News) - Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz called for an end of violence and oppression against journalists raising voice for truth.

Sharing her message on International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists, she condemned the tyranny of the journalists in Occupied Kashmir, Palestine and across the world.

Independent journalism with fair responsibility was the basic essence of democracy, stressed Maryam Nawaz asserting independent journalism was inevitable for the strong democratic state.

“Journalists are the voice of public and defender of justice, they are commendable to expose oppression, injustice and propaganda,” Punjab CM emphasised. She stated that it’s her government’s responsibility to ensure safety and protection of rights of journalists.

She was committed to providing shelter and houses to homeless journalists.

International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists is being observed today.

The United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 2nd November as the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists.

This landmark resolution condemns all attacks and violence against journalists and media worker and calls upon States to promote a safe and enabling environment for journalists to perform their work independently.

This year’s theme of the day is "safety of journalists in crises and emergencies."
