None would be harassed for taxes, Finance Minister Aurangzeb

We are "deleting" term "non-filer" itself, said Aurangzeb

WASHINGTON (Dunya News) – Federal Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb made it clear on Sunday that none would be harassed for filing income tax returns. 

During a press conference here, the finance minister said that "non-filers would not be able to buy cars and properties. 

"We need a legal cover for non-filers, we are erasing the term non-filer' itself," added Aurangzeb.

"We will raise the tax-to-GDP ratio from nine to 13 percent," reaffirmed the finance minister. 

He said the meetings with the major stakeholders in the US, Saudi finance minister, representatives of IMF and World bank were successful.

They expressed the confidence that the economy was on the right path and would grow.

"All global rating agencies have updraded Pakistan's ratings which is an indication that the economy is going in right direction. We have to take harsh decisions for the betterment of economy," said the finance minister. 

He expressed the hope that the current IMF programme would be the last programme. 

"Our foreign reserves have increased to $11 billion. We have reduced reliance on foreign loans. All banks are ready to cooperate with the government," he concluded.
