ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Federal Minister for Information, Broadcasting, National Heritage and Culture Attaullah Tarar on Friday said the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had orchestrated an armed attack on prison vans near Sangjani Toll Plaza.
In a statement, he said twenty-five to thirty people attacked the prison vans, which was foiled valiantly by the police. He said that the accused involved in attack on prison vans will be awarded exemplary punishment.
He said all the eighty-two prisoners being transported to Attock Jail are in the police custody now, while nineteen prisoners who tried to flee from the spot have also been recaptured.
Attaullah Tarar said PTI workers attacked the prison vans in a failed attempt to free the prisoners. He said PTI has always done the politics of violence. In the past, PTI carried out May 9 attacks, attacked PTV and also broke the gate of the Parliament.
The Minister said the police foiled the pre-planned attack and arrested four people while two vehicles and weapons were also seized. He said two police personnel were injured in the incident.
Attaullah Tarar said the assailants will be identified through CCTV footage of the toll plaza. He said nobody will be spared and writ of the state will be established at every cost.
He said an example will be set so that in the future no one could dare to stop the vehicles of the prisoners in an attempt to let the accused free.
