Zero tolerance policy against negligence in smog control, warns Marriyum Aurangzeb

Urges Lahoris to fight against smog

LAHORE (Dunya News) - Senior provincial minister Marriyum Aurangzeb warned that the Punjab government would not tolerate any negligence in smog control urging residents of Lahore to fight against smog.

Addressing a press conference, she highlighted government measures for smog mitigation in Lahore including all stakeholders of relevant sectors to take action in a given timeline. Marriyum stated that more than 700 industry units were sealed during more than 15,000 raids on the direction of Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz.

She revealed that around 700 brick kilns were demolished, imposing a zero tolerance policy against them and directing them to transition towards zig-zag technology.

Smoke emitting vehicles were being issued challan through Safe City cameras, warning that zero tolerance policy being implemented against smoke emission of vehicles.

Minister stated that Lahore’s green area was only limited to 3.33 pc that led to a harmful environment for 275 days for the residents of Lahore.

Surveillance of brick kilns was being done through helicopters and drones.

Brick kilns and smoke emission from vehicles were contributing to smog therefore police and district administration were making efforts to take action on violations.
