ECP to continue consultation on Punjab, NA speakers' letters regarding reserved seats

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Friday decided to continue its consultation process on the letters written by the speakers of National Assembly and Punjab Assembly related to the reserved seats.

A meeting was chaired by Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja on Friday to discuss the letters written by both the speakers.

Sikandar Sultan Raja was briefed that both the speakers wrote two letters to the ECP demanding the issuance of notification related to the reserved seats.

The sources said that the ECP’s meeting remained inconclusive and the commission decided to continue the consultation process.

Earlier, National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq had demanded the allocation of reserved seats under the amended Election Act.

Ayaz Sadiq had written a letter to Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja regarding the reserved seats.

He had mentioned that the Supreme Court's decision on reserved seats cannot be implemented after the amendment to the Election Act.

In the letter, Speaker Ayaz Sadiq told the chief election commissioner that reserved seats cannot be changed after the amendment to the Election Act.
