ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The Practice and Procedure Amendment Ordinance 2024 was challenged in the Supreme Court on Thursday.
Citizen Akmal Khan Bari submitted a petition to the Supreme Court, contesting the legality of the Practice and Procedure Amendment Ordinance 2024.

The petition highlighted that the Parliament passed the Practice and Procedure Act in 2023, which curtailed the Chief Justice’s dictatorial powers. The new legislation granted the right of appeal against rulings on constitutional petitions under the 2023 Act.
However, the petition argued that on September 19, 2024, the president issued an ordinance introducing amendments to the 2023 Act. This act restored the chief justice’s previously dissolved powers.
The petitioner asserted that the 2024 Ordinance violated Articles 2, 4, 9, and 10 of the constitution.
The petition requested the court to declare the notification of the Practice and Procedure Amendment Ordinance unconstitutional.
