LAHORE (Dunya News) – Eight people were killed and 40 others injured in rain-related incidents as heavy storms and rains lashed parts of Punjab on Wednesday evening.
In Khushab, two brothers were killed and their father was injured when lightning struck their vehicle.
In Gujranwala, three people, including a girl, were killed when the roof and walls of their house collapsed.
In Dera Ismail Khan, a woman was killed when lightning struck her house.
In Vehari, a woman and her daughter were injured after they were trapped under the rubble of a wall which collapsed due to heavy rain.
In Sheikhupura, a man, identified as Bashir, was killed by a lightning strike while working in the fields.
In Wazirabad, a motorcyclist, caught in the strong winds, crashed into a greenbelt and died instantly.
In Shakargarh, three children were injured when a wall of their house located on Chamal Road collapsed due to strong winds. The injured children were taken to a hospital where the condition of two of them was reported to be critical.
In Bhaira, Kabirwala, Sialkot, Pasrur and Daska, at least 37 people were injured due to the severe storm.
In Chiniot, lightning strikes killed more than 10 cattle worth over a million rupees.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz expressed grief over the loss of precious lives during the thunderstorms and sympathised with the bereaved families.
The chief minister issued orders for the provision of the best possible treatment to the injured.
She also directed the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA), and other departments to remain prepared and vigilant during the thunderstorms.
