Anti-polio vaccination campaign starts across country

More than 1.8 million children would be administered anti-polio drops during the drive.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - A varied duration anti-polio vaccination campaign began across the country on Monday. During the campaign, anti-polio vaccine will be administered to children under five years of age.

Mobile teams of health department will go door to door to ensure that no child is left without vaccination.

In Punjab, anti-polio drive started in six specific districts, which will continue until 9th of this month. During the drive, anti-polio drops will be administered to 6.4 million children in Lahore, Okara, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Multan and Mianwali.

In Sindh, a seven-day special anti-polio vaccination campaign began in twenty districts including Karachi. In the drive, around 4.5 million children up to the age of five would be administered anti-polio vaccine.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, a five-day anti-polio drive in twenty-three districts started. More than 3.5 million children will be administered anti-polio drops during the campaign.

And in Balochistan, seven-day anti-polio campaign began in fourteen districts. More than 1.8 million children would be administered anti-polio drops during the drive.

Due to expected heat-wave in Naseerabad, Sibi, Jaffarabad, Usta Muhammad, Dera Bugti and Sohbatpur, the anti-polio drive will begin on June 8.

Meanwhile, a terrorist was killed by the police when he opened fire on a polio team in Bettani area of Lakki Marwat this afternoon.

According to police in Lakki Marwat, arms and ammunition were also recovered from the killed terrorist.

The polio team remained safe while one police personnel was injured in exchange of firing.
