Fire erupts in Margalla Hills, efforts on to douse blaze

Capital, KP firefighter making efforts to extinguish the fire

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – A fire erupted in Margalla Hills on Saturday night due to extreme heatwave.

According to Islamabad DC Irfan Memon, the fire occurred in the territory of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), and Capital Development Authority (CDA) firefighters and rescue teams were present at the fire site.

He said a firewall has been developed to stop spread of the fire into the Capital territory, adding the Islamabad administration and KP government are making joint efforts to put out the fire.

Forest fire cases occurring due to heatwave: PDMA

Meanwhile, a spokesman for PDMA said due to severe heatwave, incidents of forest fires are occurring across Punjab.

According to him, there are approximately 144,000 acres of forests in Punjab. In the month of May, 51 incidents of forest fires were reported.

As many as 21 fire incidents were reported in Rawalpindi and Murree, 6 in Lahore-Kasur, 3 in Bahawalpur, 4 in Jhelum and 5 in Attock.

In Gujarat, Muzaffargarh, Jhang and Chichawatani, one incident each of forest fires was reported while in Chakwal, there were 5 incidents.

A total area of about 200 acres was affected by the forest fire.
