LAHORE (Dunya News) – Pakistan on Wednesday defeated Bangladesh by seven wickets in first Super Four stage match of Asia Cup 2023 at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore.
Imamul Haq played heroic inning of 78 runs to give a strong start after Fakhar Zaman was dismissed for 20. Pakistan skipper Babar Azam was at 17 when he was removed by Taskin Ahmed, serving a blow to the hosts.
At that time, Mohammad Rizwan joined Mr Haq to maintain the momentum. He made unbeaten 63, guiding team green to seven-wicket win over Bangladesh.
Earlier, Haris Rauf's magical spell restricted Bangladesh from building a challenging target as visitors were dismissed for 193 in the match.
After Bangladesh’s top order, including opening pair, failed to stand tall against the skillful bowling by Pakistani bowlers, skipper Shakib Al Hasan held the command and played an inning of 53 runs.
Mushfiqur Rahim joined him in the campaign to recover the team from early losses as he made 64 runs before being removed by Haris Rauf. After their dismissal, Bangladesh were quick to lose the wickets as they were bowled out at 193 in 38.4 overs.
Pakistan’s right-armed pacer Haris Rauf led from the front as he took four wickets while Naseem Shah took three wickets to devastate the Bangladesh batting.
Earlier, Bangladesh won the toss and decided to bat first.
Pakistan made one change to the team and Faheem Ashraf has been included in place of Mohammad Nawaz.
Pakistan defeated Nepal in the Group A match while India match ended in no result due to rain. After the match was called off, both teams were rewarded one point each, taking Pakistan to Super 4 round.
