Bangladesh rules out two more during Windies tour
DHAKA (AFP) - Injury-plagued Bangladesh has ruled out two more cricketers in its ongoing West Indies tour with all-rounder Mohammad Saifuddin and batsman Yasir Ali both struck from the squad.
Saifuddin was pulled out after failing to regain his fitness for the series, the Bangladesh Cricket Board said Thursday.
"We feel that at the moment he has not reached the bowling fitness level required to cope with the intensity of international cricket," BCB chief physician Debashis Chowdhury said in a statement.
The 25-year-old last played an international match in October 2021.
Yasir Ali was also ruled out of the tour s T20 and ODI matches after failing to recover from a back injury sustained during a three-day warm-up match in Antigua, the BCB said Wednesday.
"Yasir Ali has not been recovering as anticipated... and could not start his rehab," Bangladesh team physio Bayjedul Islam said.
"He is still restricted in his physical work after nearly two weeks of rest."
Yasir is returning to Bangladesh and will continue his recovery under the BCB s supervision.
Bangladesh will play three Twenty20 internationals and three one-day internationals during the tour.
The tourists are trailing West Indies by 0-1 in the two-Test series after a seven-wicket loss in the opener hosted by Antigua.
The second Test begins Friday at Saint Lucia, with batsman Anamul Haque and pace bowler Shoriful Islam joining the squad as injury backups.
