LAHORE (Dunya News) - Police was held responsible for the Minar-e-Pakistan incident on Independence Day, according to the special inquiry committee report.
According to sources, a special inquiry committee set up by IG Punjab has sent a detailed report. According to the report, a comprehensive security plan was drawn for Lahore on August 14, and Minar-e-Pakistan was added to the hotspot in terms of security.
Security was not deployed in the park according to the plan, said report. SP City Hassan Jahangir ignored poor security arrangements at important points. DIG Operations Sajid Kayani and SSP Operations Nadeem Abbas also remained unaware of the situation. The CCPO also preferred flag marches and office meetings rather than giving importance to the security in the provincial capital.
According to the report, Ghulam Mehmood Dogar remained satisfied with the security arrangements. Despite several calls made on the emergency 15 on the day of incident police arrived very late at the spot.
It may be recalled that IG Punjab Inam Ghani had formed a three-member team to investigate the incident and directed to submit final report.
Addressing a press conference in Lahore, DIG Investigation Sharq Jamal said that about 130 people involved in the Minar-e-Pakistan incident have been arrested and police will issue challans after the identification parade.
