Senate passes resolution seeking IIOJK pre August 5 status

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The Senate on Wednesday unanimously adopted a resolution condemning the Indian illegal actions against the oppressed people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) and seeking pre August 5, 2019 status of Kashmir.

The resolution was tabled by Senator Dr Zarqa Taimur and Senator Mushahid Hussain which was unanimously adopted by the Upper House. Senate passed the resolution in the wake of the ‘All Parties Meeting of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir’ leaders called by Indian PM Modi on June 24, 2021.

The statement calls upon to enable the people of Kashmir to exercise their inalienable right of self-determination in accordance with the UNSC resolutions.

Further, the statement demands reversion to the pre August 5 status of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir and the release of all political prisoners.

It also demanded “immediate cessation of attempts to change the demographic balance” in the region. The statement ended by saluting the Kashmiri people’s resistance.
