LHC cancels luxury tax notices sent to big house owners

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Lahore High Court (LHC) has cancelled the luxury tax notices sent by Punjab government to the owners of 2 kanal or bigger houses.
Lahore High Court’s Justice Jawab Hassan heard the case against sending luxury tax notices to big house owners. Justice Jawad Hassan remarked that the Excise Department has not complied with the rules and regulations for tax recovery.
Justice Jawad further said: “Fair trial is the right of every citizen. The Excise Department should not act hastily.”
The citizens had challenged the act of imposition of luxury tax in the Lahore High Court. The Punjab government and the Excise Department were made parties in the petition. The Excise department had sent Rs 65 lakh notice in connection to the luxury tax to the owner of a four-kanal house.
