Ring Road scandal: PM displeased over Ghulam Sarwar Khan's press conference

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Prime Minister Imran Khan said on Tuesday that the government ordered an inquiry into the Rawalpindi Ring Road scandal of it s own accord after it received a complaint.

Prime Minister Imran Khan said this while addressing a meeting of the Federal Cabinet. According to sources, the PM asked Minister for Aviation Ghulam Sarwar Khan to explain why he held a press conference when he had not even been named in the scandal.

Sources say that Ghulam Sarwar Khan was of the opinion that since his name was doing the rounds on social media, he considered it necessary to issue a clarification.

The Aviation Minister said that it seems that the Punjab government has conspired against him. “The Punjab government’s investigations and TORs are against me”, he added.

The Prime Minister said that the fact finding report had just been released and the investigation was yet to take place. He said that Ghulam Sarwar’s name was not in the fact finding report and assured him that he was overseeing the matter himself.

On Monday, Aviation Minister Ghulam Sarwar Khan had addressed a presser and said that the PTI government is taking all necessary measures to implement the Rawalpindi Ring Road project. He had said that the alignment of the project was changed on technical grounds, therefore, he cannot be accused of political interference in the development project.
