Cyclone Tauktae: Water board forms emergency center in Karachi

KARACHI (Dunya News) – The Karachiites on Sunday have taken a sigh of relief after knowing that the Cyclone Tauktae, which was 1220km away from Pakistan, has changed its direction. According to details, the speed of gusty winds in Karachi has been recorded as 100 to 120 kilometer per hour. Dust/thunderstorm-rain with few moderate to heavy falls will continue in Karachi, Thatta, Sujawal, Badin, Tharparker, Mirpurkhas, Umerkot & Sanghar districts during 17- 20 May 2021.

On the other hand, Managing Director at Karachi Water and Sewerage Board has established an emergency center in the wake of possible torrential rains due to Cyclone Tauktae. Public complaints will be received and addressed through this center. The water board MD has also directed the concerned officers to take immediate actions on the issues reported by the people. Earlier, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah had alerted all the agencies in view of the developing Cyclone Tauktae and directed to remove billboards in Karachi. A meeting regarding the cyclone was held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Sindh in which important decisions were taken. Murad Ali Shah directed the Commissioner Karachi, KMC and DMC to clean the city’s drains. He also directed the cantonment board to be ready to deal with any developing situation. Fishermen have also been alerted to not venture into the deep sea between May 17 and May 20. The Meteorological Department has said that due to this system, dusty winds and showers with thunder are likely. Rain, thunderstorms and dust storms are likely in Hyderabad, Karachi, Jamshoro and Shaheed Benazirabad from May 18 to 20.
