NA-249 By-election: PML-N in the lead as vote count continues

A tough contest is expected between Pakistan People's Party and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz

KARACHI (Dunya News) - The vote count for the by-election for National Assembly constituency NA-249 Karachi West-II is underway after polling concluded at 5pm.

According to unofficial and unconfirmed results from 265 polling stations, this is how the candidates currently stand:

 1. Qadir Khan (PPP) - 14,598 votes

 2. Miftah Ismail (PML-N) - 13,880 votes

3. Nazir Ahmed - 10,075

4. Mustafa Kamal (PSP) - 8,360 votes

5. Amjad Afridi (PTI) - 8,080 votes

 

The Election Commission had made all necessary arrangements to hold the elections in peaceful manner. The polling started at 8am and continued till 5pm without any break.

According to sources, presiding officers had been directed that pictures of Form-45 be sent to returning officers in presence of polling agents of contesting candidates.

A tough contest is predicted between the candidates of PPP and PML-N while the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) is not expected to retain the seat.

Amjad Afridi of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Miftah Ismail of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Qadir Khan Madokhel of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Mustafa Kamal of Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP) and Mohammad Mursaleen of Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) are among the 30 candidates taking part in the by-election.

There are 339,591 registered voters in the constituency out of which 201,656 are male and 137,935 are female voters who exercised their right of vote today.

Al least 276 polling stations had been established in the constituency out of which 184 were declared highly sensitive while 92 polling stations were declared sensitive.
