KARACHI (Dunya News) – Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Gulzar Ahmed Thursday heard two cases pertaining to Royal Park and encroachments on Shahrah-e-Qaideen in the Supreme Court’s Karachi Registry. He remarked that the provincial capital’s commissioner is not aware of anything and should be removed.
Justice Gulzar Ahmed headed a three-member bench comprising Justice Ijazul Ahsan and Justice Mazhar Alam Miankhel, and said the apex court had asked Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah to give recommendations for Karachi’s betterment. The CJP ordered the CM to appear before the court and give explanation.
Justice Gulzar Ahmed said the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) connives with land grabbers and encroachment mafia in illegal construction. A multi-storey building is made from nowhere on a vacant plot with connivance of the SBCA, he remarked.
Karachi’s commissioner told the court that the building is not made on nullah according to the SBCA. The CJP reprimanded the commissioner over misrepresentation of facts. Leave aside the SBCA, you are answerable as direct orders were given to you, Justice Gulzar Ahmed remarked.
The chief justice also rebuked the SBCA DG and said the building control authority can also hand over buildings of the Supreme Court and the CM House to anyone. Everyone knows who runs the SBCA, the CJP said while adding that corruption worth billions of rupees is committed in the department every month.
