PPP should not have taken votes from BAP members: Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar said Wednesday that PPP should not have taken votes from BAP members to get Yousaf Raza Gillani appointed as leader of the opposition in Senate. In his view, taking votes from members of the government damaged the party’s ideological identity.
In a statement, he said that some of PDM’s recent decisions did not leave a good impression on the inflation-stricken public as they want to get rid of this government at all costs. In the eyes of the people, we were seen fighting and strengthening a very unpopular government, he added.
Senator Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar said that other parties are at weaker footing on the topic of resignations but as far as Leader of the Opposition is concerned, PPP has a weaker stance. If our party wants to regain the lost ground in other provinces, public politics must take precedence over power politics, he added.
The PPP leader further said that he hopes the party would consider these issues and come up with a clear strategy, adding that disagreeing with party opinion is a democratic right and he expects his statement to be seen in that context.
