SC disposes of lawmakers' uplift grant case

Justice Qazi Faez Isa took notice of the uplift grant on February 3.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) has disposed of a case relating to Prime Minister Imran Khan’s approval of Rs500 million uplift grant to lawmakers.
During the hearing of the case, Justice Qazi Faez Isa remarked that yesterday someone sent him documents on WhatsApp regarding release of hefty funds to the government ally in NA-65 constituency and questioned whether funds could be issued to certain constituencies for road construction and if it is in accordance with the law.
Addressing the Attorney General, Justice Isa said that we are the protectors of the people’s money and the constitution.
Meanwhile, the documents were submitted in apex court in which Prime Minister Imran Khan denied issuing any funds to lawmakers. On this, Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed remarked that the PM’s response was quite reasonable and disposed of the case.
Earlier on February 3, Justice Qazi Faez Isa took notice of the uplift grant announced by Prime Minister Imran Khan for lawmakers of National and provincial assemblies.
During a hearing of a case, Justice Faez Isa asked that is the prime minister’s giving funds to lawmakers in line with the constitution and law.
He directed the Advocate General and Attorney General to seek instructions from the government and inform the SC in this regard. We will dispose of the matter if the grant is being given as per the constitution and law, he said.
