South Africa bat in Karachi Test after Pakistan take lead

Pakistan secured a 158-run lead in reply to South Africa's 220 runs in first innings.

KARACHI (Dunya News) – South Africa Thursday scored 84 runs for the loss of only one wicket at Tea on day three of the first Test match at the National Stadium Karachi (NSK) after bowling out Pakistan on 378.

South Africa openers Aiden Markram and Dean Elgar managed to see off twelve overs before Lunch. Yasir Shah removed Elgar on 29 in post-lunch session. Markaram and Rassie van der Dussen were unbeaten on 34 and 17 respectively.

The Proteas still trailed by 74 as the Green Caps had secured a 158-run lead in reply to South Africa’s 220 in the first innings.

Hasan Ali and Nauman Ali resumed Pakistan’s innings today on 11 and 6 respectively. Kagiso Rabada dismissed Hasan Ali on 21, becoming the eighth South African to take 200 or more Test wickets. Nauman Ali (24) was the last Pakistan batsman to be dismissed. He was removed by Keshav Maharaj. Yasir Shah remained unbeaten on 38.

South Africa’s Rabada and Maharaj dismissed three batsmen each while Lungi Ngidi and Anrich Nortje picked up two wickets apiece. The two-match series marks South Africa’s first trip to Pakistan in 14 years.
