Five-day anti-polio drive begins across country

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – A five-day anti-polio drive has begun on Monday across the country during which poliomyelitis drops will be administered to over 39 million children under the age of five.

2.85 lac polio workers are taking part in the campaign which will continue till December 4. The drops will be administered to around 1.92 crore children in Punjab and nine million children in 29 districts of Sindh, out of which two million reside in Karachi.

Pakistan has reported 81 polio cases this year, including 23 in Balochistan, 22 in Sindh, 22 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and 14 in Punjab. The workers have been directed to follow the coronavirus standard operating procedures (SOPs) during the campaign.

Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on National Health Services Dr. Faisal Sultan has appealed to all parents to administer polio drops to their children while expressing determination to eliminate this disease from Pakistan.
