PM Imran, Ashraf Ghani discuss Afghan peace process over phone

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Prime Minister Imran Khan has reiterated Pakistan’s support of the Afghan peace process and assured full cooperation to Afghan President Ashraf Ghani.

He said this in a telephonic conversation between the two leaders on Friday which also discussed negotiations between the Taliban and the Afghan government. Prime Minister Imran Khan said that US-Taliban peace agreement and intra-Afghan talks began with positive efforts from all sides.

He praised the steps taken by the two sides in the intra-Afghan talks in Doha and stressed the importance of Afghan parties’ role in ending the violence and enforcing ceasefire.

Imran Khan said that all Afghan stakeholders should take advantage of this historic opportunity and the country’s leadership must work towards a comprehensive political agreement.

He assured the Afghan President that Pakistan would fully support the decisions taken for a better future of the Afghan people. The Prime Minister spoke on the importance of constructive Pak-Afghan relations, peace and stability as well as the well-being of the Afghan people.

During the conversation, he said that the chairman of the High Council for National Reconciliation, Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, would visit Islamabad next week. President Ghani invited Imran Khan to visit Afghanistan which the PM accepted, saying that he would visit Afghanistan soon.
