NEPRA approves Rs 1.62 per unit increase in power tariff

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Adding to the woes of electricity consumers experiencing unannounced outages across the country, NEPRA has approved an increase in the power tariff by Rs 1.62 per unit, which will impose an additional burden of Rs 165 billion on consumers.

According to details, NEPRA decided to increase the price on account of two quarterly adjustments from October 2019 to March 2020. According to the decision, price of electricity has been raised by Rs 1.62 per unit.

NEPRA approved to impose an additional burden of Rs 73 billion on consumers for the second quarter of FY 2019-20 (October-December) and Rs 91.80 billion for the third quarter (January-March).

NEPRA’s decision to increase the power tariff will be implemented after a notification issued by the government. However, this decision will not apply to users of K-Electric. It may be recalled that NEPRA had reserved its decision after conducting a hearing on the matter.
