Anti-polio drive in Punjab to resume from July 20

LAHORE (Dunya News) – The Anti polio drive will initially be started in 44 union councils of Faisalabad and 14 union councils of Attock as case response from July 20.

In a meeting held under the chairmanship of Provincial Health Minister Dr Yasmin Rashid and Chief Secretary Punjab Jawad Rafique Malik to review the arrangements in connection with the anti-polio campaign.

Dr. Yasmeen Rashid directed that as efforts to eradicate polio are facing more challenges in urban areas, a comprehensive plan should be prepared to improve EPI coverage along with the campaign.

The Chief Secretary said that Deputy Commissioners should monitor the anti-polio activities in the districts themselves and no negligence would be tolerated in this regard. He directed to ensure 100% coverage, having even a single case reported means complete failure. Performance of anti-polio activities will be reviewed on a monthly basis, he added.

The meeting was briefed that anti-polio campaign would be launched in 44 union councils of Faisalabad and 14 union councils of Attock initially and a target to vaccinate 317,783 children in 58 union councils has been set.

It was said during the briefing that a comprehensive strategy has been prepared to launch anti-polio campaign in other districts of the province from August 17. So far this year, four polio cases have been reported in the province.
