Thai car show back on the road after pandemic postponements
BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thailand on Wednesday opened its twice-postponed annual auto show to the public in the country’s first large-scale event since restrictions over the coronavirus eased, with nearly all attendees wearing masks and face shields.
Thermal scans were placed at the show’s entrance and sales teams measured temperatures when people visited the ir booths.
Guests are also required to check-in and out with their mobile phones when entering and leaving, unlike in previous years when people could move around freely.
Thailand is a major regional car production hub with its previous motor shows booked over a million people in attendance.
"This is more than the motor show, but also Thailand’s reputation because the other event organizers will be watching," said Prachin Eamlumnow, chief executive of head organizer of the event, Grand Prix International.
Thailand has gone nearly seven weeks with local transmission of the virus and has been easing restrictions to drive its economy.
The show features 25 brands including Nissan and BMW and 22 motorcycle manufacturers also displayed their products at stands with specific entry and exit points.
Motor shows around the world have been forced to cancel or delay due to restrictions from the COVID-19 pandemic.
