Experts believe split AC units may be spreading the coronavirus

(Web Desk) - British experts have advised users of split air conditioning units (ACs) to use them with their windows open as the World Health Organization (WTO) has acknowledged evidence of Covid-19 spreading in the atmosphere through air.

Dr Schwan Fitzgerald, a fellow at the Royal Academy of Engineering in the United Kingdom, said that air conditioning units an external air inlet may cause the spread of the virus.

There are currently two types of air conditioning units. One takes air from outside while the other split units take air from inside the room and pass it through cooling coils, releasing it back into the room and cooling the atmosphere.

Dr. Fitzgerald added that, "The proposed strategy now is that if you have the latter type of these units, then keep the room window open even if it means sacrificing the AC’s cooling effectiveness”.

He further advised that if people with these split units cannot open windows, they should avoid places with more than one person present at a time. In other words, only one person must be in the room when using split AC.

Last Monday, 239 scientists from 32 countries wrote a letter to the WHO stating that they had found evidence of the presence of virus particles in the atmosphere. People who breathe in such an environment are at risk of contracting the coronavirus.
