Toxic gas leakage: KPT administration seeks Pak Navy's help

Pakistan Navy's Biological and Chemical Damage Control team reached the affected area.

KARACHI (Dunya News) - Karachi Port Trust (KPT) administration has sought help from Pakistan Navy after poisonous gas leakage killed at least six people and affected more than 80 in Kimari area of Karachi on Sunday, Dunya News reported.

According to sources, KPT chairman has contacted Commander Karachi Real Admiral Zahid Ilyas and sought help from Pakistan Navy to take part in the rescue operation in the affected area.

Sources further informed that Pakistan Navy s Biological and Chemical Damage Control team reached the affected area to participate in the rescue operation.

At least six people were killed and more than 80 other were affected when a mysterious poisonous gas spread in Kimari. Sources said that it is not yet known how the gas emission occurred.

The affected persons, who were facing severe breathing problem, have been shifted to Ziauudin Hospital. Doctors at the hospital said that 40 persons are still under treatment at the hospital while the other were discharged after first aid.

On the other hand, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has taken notice of the toxic gas incident and sought report from commissioner of Karachi. He has also expressed grief over the loss of precious lives in the gas leak incident.
